Your Child’s First Visit
After your child turns one year old, they should start coming to see us for checkups every six months. These early visits will primarily focus on familiarizing your child with Dr. Robison, our staff, and our tools so that they feel comfortable with us as they continue to grow. We will also take the opportunity to discuss your child’s dental health care with you, answering any questions you may have.
Helping Your Child Have a Good Experience
Although we do our best to create a welcoming, comfortable environment for your child and always use a gentle touch in treatment, you can have a great impact on your child’s experience in our office by doing the following:
- Helping your child maintain healthy oral habits, like brushing and flossing daily, at home.
- Talking positively about going to the dentist with them.
Checkups and Cleanings
As a father of two children, Dr. Robison knows how to make dental appointments fun and relaxing for younger patients. He and the rest of our staff ensure that your child is completely comfortable during their appointment by explaining what they are going to do in easy-to-understand language. We also take the opportunity to educate your child about daily care for their teeth.
Fluoride Treatment
Whether old or young, our patients benefit from getting fluoride treatment at their checkup and cleaning appointments, but it can be especially helpful for children who are still learning how to care for their teeth. In fact, the Center for Disease Control and Prevention states that this fluoride varnish can prevent about 33 percent of cavities in baby teeth. The next time you bring your child in, ask us about getting a fluoride treatment to help protect their growing smiles from decay.
Dental Sealants
The most cavity-prone areas in the mouth are the chewing surfaces of the back teeth. This is particularly true for children who are still developing their dental care skills. Well, we offer another layer of protection for these teeth with dental sealants. This safe, clear layer of plastic material shields these vulnerable areas from cavity-causing bacteria and can last for up to ten years. Dental sealants can prevent up to 80 percent of cavities! If your child has their premolars and molars, it is the perfect time to have dental sealants applied to protect these teeth.
We look forward to getting to know your child and helping them keep their smile happy and healthy. Our team at Robison Dental Group can meet their individual needs and help get them on the path to good oral health. Contact us today to schedule an appointment!
